At Mindr, we talk a lot about the joys and challenges of becoming and being moms. And we draw so much inspiration, both in the big picture and the little details, from the strong women who did it before us. Today, the Mindr team shares our thoughts about our own mama bears, and the ways they have shaped us.

Sarah Lux-Lee, Founder

My mama's name is: Ora

Her most inspiring quality is: Her stoicism and determination. My mum has been through some real ups and downs in life, and she always, always, gets up with a spring in her step. That's a really special quality, and one I hope to emulate and pass on to my daughter Ella.

I see her in myself when: I convince someone to do something (and that it was their idea.)

We occasionally disagree about: Whether I will or will not be cold without a sweater.

If we could do one thing together, it would be: Cocktails and a Broadway musical, which has become our classic girls' night when she comes to visit NYC.

My mama's name is: Naomi

Her most inspiring quality is: Her fierce support of her daughters. I really think she would scale a building if she thought it would help one of us - and she's terrified of heights.

I see her in myself when: I take on the role of carer and nurturer with my family and friends. Everyone always feels welcome, comfortable, and well fed in her house, and I try to act the same way.

We occasionally disagree about: Clothes - she always knows when something will look good off the hanger, even when I argue with her about trying it on all the way to the fitting room.

If we could do one thing together, it would be: Cook! She loves to share her amazing recipes, but refuses to write them down (and insists there are no real recipes). The only way to learn is to do it together!

My mama's name is: Connie

Her most inspiring quality is: The unwavering support she has for her children. She has always done everything in her power to help my sister, brother and I whenever we need it. She definitely has our back!

I see her in myself when: In how I parent my two children. I’m starting to realize more and more how much I learned from my mother and her parenting style.

We occasionally disagree about: Where to travel for family vacations. I’m more adventurous and like to try new locales. She likes to spend time relaxing in her favorite places.

If we could do one thing together, it would be: A trip to our favorite beach filled with lots of shopping!

My mama's name is: Jil.

Her most inspiring quality is: Jil is the best connector. She has this incredible ability to bring people together and make everyone feel welcome.

I see her in myself when: I create overly ambitious plans and come up with a million different ideas. Jil is so full of ideas!

We occasionally disagree about: I am not always the best communicator, so sometimes she gets frustrated with me when I am not clear about my plans, like where in the world I am currently living.

If we could do one thing together, it would be: We would most definitely be playing tennis together or eating, one of those two.

My mama's name is: Iris

Her most inspiring quality is: Her gift for storytelling and knowing how to make a roomful of people laugh.

I see her in myself when: I laugh at a dirty joke.

We occasionally disagree about: Whether a dirty joke was appropriate to have been shared in the first place.

If we could do one thing together, it would be: Having brunch at a nice place where the thermostat is set exactly to her liking and then browsing some stores together. We're pretty simple.
