Get involved in employee resource groups at Ares

In 2024, Ares will begin a new, two-year term of ERG leadership, and is now accepting applications from all interested employees. This form should be completed by anyone interested in leadership, whether you are a current leader interested in serving another term, or an employee who would be coming in as a new leader.

Step one: Review the information below to learn more about ERGs, open leadership roles, and selection criteria before applying. Please note that all interested employees must submit a form, including those who are currently serving in ERG leadership.
Step two: Talk with your manager about your interest. You will need their approval in order to be appointed to a leadership role.
Step three: Complete the interest form by Monday, June 26th. You can expect to hear back by early fall.

What are employee resource groups (ERGs)?

ERGs are an essential part of Ares' diversity strategy, and serve as a forum to share ideas, concerns, and successes and provide opportunities for professional development. Ares currently has 8 ERGs, with engagement from nearly half of the firm. The groups that are building new leadership committees include:

How will leaders be selected?

Applications will be reviewed by the selection committee, comprised of business leaders, DEI, HRBPs, individual managers and others. The committee will consider the following criteria when selecting employees to serve in ERG leadership:

  • Relevant skills and experience
  • Position preferences and availability
  • Previous engagement with employee resource groups
  • Participation in the Mindr Mentorship Exchange and other development opportunities
  • Make-up of leadership committee between those who identify within the community and its allies
  • In good performance standing as deemed by the direct manager and with support of the HRBP

The selection committee will consider all elements of the selection criteria to ensure diverse leadership committees that represent various roles, tenures, and identities, and will strive to maintain a balance of new and continuing leaders.

How else can I get involved?

In addition to joining ERG leadership, there are several other ways to get involved in diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives at Ares. These opportunities are not subject to manager approval or the above selection criteria, but please do submit an interest form for more information.

Join an Ares Support Network: While these support networks don't have formal leadership committees, volunteers are welcome to join the following groups: Black Women Thriving Network (BWTN), Gratefully Reclaiming Our Wellbeing & Mental Health (GROW), Mothers at Ares Making Investments (MAMI), Parents at Ares Connect (PACT), and Support for Issues of Age at Ares (SAGE).

Volunteer on an ERG Pillar Sub-Committee: Sub-committee members are expected to dedicate a minimum of 2 hours each month to projects/meetings related to the ERG, partner with committee members to execute and implement chosen initiatives, attend committee meetings, and deliver on ERG goals. If you are not selected for one of the four formal leadership roles, you may be invited to join a sub-committee as identified in your interest form. The four pillars include:
